International Football Federation (FIFA) hailed the Algerian team progress in 2009 ahead of the Greens crucial tie with Egypt in the last round of FIFA World Cup African Qualifiers on Saturday.
Algeria top Group C in qualifiers with 13 points in front of Egypt with 3 points and 2 goals difference.
On the other hand the Pharaohs need to win 3 goals clear to qualify directly to World Cup or 2 goals clear to get the play-off on Wednesday in Sudan while lose one goal difference or victory and draw will lead the Greens to Mundial.
FIFA reports asserted that Algeria “Algeria stands on the brink of their biggest footballing achievement in almost two decades and an opportunity to consolidate a best-ever position in the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking” FIFA official website said.
The report highlights the success of the Greens coach Rabih Saadan in harmonizing the professional players : Karim Ziani, Antar Yahia, Djamel Abdoun and Rafik Djebour who play in European big leagues.
It should be noted that Algeria did not reach WC since 1986 in Mexico when they were also under the charge of Saadan.
